  1. To serve the needs of more seniors, Vanguard Healthcare (Vanguard) will operate two new nursing homes with co-located senior care centres in Bukit Batok and Bukit Panjang, which are targeted to open in mid-2019 and end-2020 respectively. These will be Vanguard’s fourth and fifth nursing homes.

  2. Locating eldercare facilities such as nursing homes and senior care centres within Housing Development Board (HDB) estates provides a continuum of options for our seniors, ranging from day care to residential care in the same precinct. With different care options, we can better meet the needs of seniors and their caregivers.

  3. The two new nursing homes will also be built with provisions to cater to persons with dementia. For examples, wards will be designed in smaller clusters with decentralised day spaces and communal facilities such as living rooms to encourage interaction among residents.

    Bukit Batok Care Home

  4. Bukit Batok Care Home (BBCH) will have a capacity of 220 nursing home beds with a co-located senior care centre offering 60 day care places. BBCH features a fenceless boundary for seamless connectivity to the neighbourhood and integration with the community. Residents from nearby HDB estates will be able to walk through the nursing home to the HDB park, senior fitness corner, and a future school nearby. Additionally, BBCH will have a public communal plaza to encourage interaction between nursing home residents, senior care centre clients, and the surrounding community. BBCH is designed with ‘A Home in a Garden’ concept to provide a healing and restorative living environment for seniors with abundant greenery. (Please refer to Annex A for artist’s impression of BBCH.)

    Senja Care Home

  5. Senja Care Home (SJCH) has a capacity of about 350 beds and will be the first nursing home co-located with a polyclinic in a 12-storey Integrated Healthcare Facility. Besides the nursing home and polyclinic, the integrated development also includes a senior care centre which provides 60 day care places. This co-location allows synergies between the different healthcare services through sharing of community rehabilitation and physiotherapy services to support polyclinic patients and seniors as their care needs evolve. (Please see Annex B for artist’s impression of SJCH.)

    Conclusion

  6. We are on track to develop 17,000 nursing home beds, 6,200 day care places and 10,000 home care places by 2020 to cater to the demand for aged care services. MOH will continue to invest in aged care services, and build more communities of care, to ensure that our seniors are well-supported to age gracefully within the community, close to their loved ones.
