Her Excellency Dr Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), will visit Singapore from 1 to 3 April 2007. Dr Chan's visit is at the joint invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo and Minister for Health Khaw Boon Wan under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' United Nations Distinguished Visitors Programme.
In Singapore, Dr Chan will participate in a High-Level Panel Debate on "International Health Security" to commemorate World Health Day 2007. This event is jointly organised by the WHO and the Ministry of Health. Dr Chan will also deliver a public lecture at the National University of Singapore and visit local community healthcare facilities.
Dr Chan will call on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs Raymond Lim, Minister for Health Khaw Boon Wan and meet with Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Senior Minister of State for Information, Communications and the Arts Dr Balaji Sadasivan.
