Situation Update
Today, 1 more patient has been discharged, bringing the total number of patients who have recovered from SARS to 154. 23 patients remain hospitalised, of whom 9 are in intensive care.
A 72 year old male patient who was admitted to NUH on 5 April and transferred to TTSH on 29 April, has been found to be positive for the SARS virus on laboratory testing. The patient was in the same ward as the 64 year old NUH patient who had SARS and passed away on 12 April in TTSH. The 72 year old patient developed a fever on 23 April and was isolated in NUH on the same day. He had some chest X-ray changes of pneumonia for which he was treated with antibiotics. He was transferred to TTSH on 29 April. Positive laboratory test results for SARS virus were obtained on 7 May and 8 May 03. In view of this, he has been classified as a probable SARS case with the date of onset being 23 April.
The latest date of onset of a probable case is on 27 April 03. This case was isolated on 28 April 03. So far, there have been no cases reported with dates of onset later than 27 April 03.
Pasir Panjang Wholesale Centre situation update
There have been no new admissions of suspect SARS patients who may be related to the PPWC cluster. 2 workers from PPWC were admitted for observation of fever.
New Suspect Cases
There were 3 patients today who were diagnosed as suspect cases. All of them have a history of travel to SARS-affected areas.
New Observation Cases
There were 8 patients admitted today as observation cases. They comprise 3 patients who had travelled to SARS-affected areas recently; 2 patients from SGH who were picked up on hospital daily surveillance; 2 workers from PPWC and 1 patient whose contact history has not been established.
