Singapore and Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) renewed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote closer cooperation in healthcare today. The MOU was signed by the Minister for Health, Mr Khaw Boon Wan, and his MSAR counterpart, Dr Chui Sai On.
2 The new MOU will further fortify the level of collaboration between Singapore and MSAR as paved by an earlier MOU in 2005. Since 2006, officials from the Macao Health Bureau had taken up various training attachments in our public healthcare institutions, in areas such as epidemiology, public health, communicable diseases and general hospital administration. Several also participated in pandemic preparedness exercises in Singapore. In preparation for the Singapore F1 Grand Prix, our medical officials also studied Macao’s provision of medical coverage during the Macao Grand Prix.
3 The renewal of the MOU will enhance the framework for continued mutual collaboration and co-operation. It will accelerate the exchange of information and expertise in medical services, as well as increase opportunities for training attachments in both Singapore and MSAR.
4 The MOU reflects the deepening bilateral cooperation between Singapore and MSAR. Dr Chui Sai On visited Singapore with six MSAR officials from 14 to 15 Dec 2008.
