SENIOR MINISTER OF STATE DR LAM PIN MIN TO ATTEND THE 5th GLOBAL HEALTH SECURITY AGENDA (GHSA) MINISTERIAL MEETING

Dr Lam Pin Min, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Health, will attend the 5th Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) Ministerial Meeting in Bali, Indonesia, from 5 to 7 November 2018.
2. The GHSA is a five-year initiative launched in 2014, aimed at building countries’ capacity in advancing a world safer and more secure from infectious disease threats, and elevating global health security as a national and global priority. Singapore is a contributing country to GHSA’s Action Packages[1], providing technical assistance through the World Health Organization (WHO), the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) and ASEAN Plus Three platforms that complement GHSA’s objectives.
3. The 5th GHSA, “Advancing Global Partnerships”, aims to review and step up the commitments made in the first five years of GHSA, strengthen multi-sectoral and multi-stakeholder partnerships, and identify the work to be done in achieving the vision, goals, and targets set out in the GHSA 2024 Framework[2].
4. Dr Lam will meet with his regional counterparts at the Meeting. He will be accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Health.

[1] To facilitate progress towards the common GHSA goals, member countries identified 11 GHSA Action Packages. The Action Packages aim to focus international discussion towards specific, coordinated actions in support of the GHSA. Topics of discussion include Antimicrobial Resistance, Zoonotic Diseases, and Biosafety and Biosecurity.
[2] The GHSA 2024 Framework was developed to provide strategic approaches for global health security stakeholders across the world to develop policies and strategies to ensure achievements of health security goals and targets until 2024.
