To ask the Minister for Health (a) what is the method used for Rostered Routine Testing (RRT); and (b) whether there will be alternative methods of testing considered for persons on RRT.
Written Answer
Rostered routine testing (RRT) is applicable to workers in higher risk settings such as our borders, the Construction, Marine and Process (CMP) sectors, as well those living in high density environments such as dorms. Inpatient healthcare personnel also go through RRT to allow for early detection of cases to preserve hospital capacity.
By mid-July, workers in settings where there are unmasked individuals or where there is prolonged contact with clients, will also be required to undergo RRT. This includes workers in settings such as dine-in F&B establishments, personal care services, and gyms and fitness studios.
We use Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests for RRTs but are also considering alternative tests. There are Fast and Easy Tests such as Antigen Rapid Tests (ARTs). As more people are vaccinated and more alternative testing methods are made available, we will adapt our RRT regime parameters, such as frequency and mode of testing, and review whether RRT continues to be relevant at all.
