The new Dental Registration Act was passed in Parliament this year and will take effect on 1st January 2008.
The Act requires all currently practising Oral Health Therapists to be registered with the Singapore Dental Council in order to continue practicing in the public and private sector hospitals, institutions and clinics. This is to ensure that all dental professionals involved in the direct delivery of clinical care are regulated and professionally recognised.
There are three categories of Oral Health Therapists, namely:
Dental Hygienists
Dental Therapists
Dental Hygienists/Dental Therapists
Applications for registration by Singapore Dental Council have started on 3 December 2007. Registration should be done by 30 June 2008[1].
For registration details and further information, please access SDC’s website at http://www.sdc.gov.sg. Application forms can also be obtained from the Singapore Dental Council at 16 College Road, #01-01 College of Medicine Building, Singapore 169854.
