In July this year, Parliament passed the Optometrists & Opticians Act. The Act which aims to raise the standard of eye care in Singapore will come into effect in January 2008.
To ensure that those who provide eye care services are properly trained and qualified, the Act requires all Optometrists and Opticians to be registered with the Optometrists & Opticians Board.
Applications for registration by the Optometrists and Opticians Board have just started. Optometrists and opticians are advised to apply for registration before 15 December 2007, in order to continue practising as optometrists or opticians from January 2008.
Opticians with more than 2 years of experience in Opticianry may be required to complete the following courses/tests for full registration:

On registration with the Optometrists and Opticians Board, they will be informed of which courses/tests they should be taking.
Opticians with less than 2 years of experience in Opticianry as at 1 January 2008 must complete the Advance Certificate of Performance in Ophthalmic Dispensing (ACOPOD) or the Advance Certificate of Performance in Ophthalmic Dispensing and Refraction (ACOPOD+R) to be eligible for registration.
