From 1 Jan 2002, all acupuncturists must register in order to practise. Criteria for registration which were worked out by Ministry of Health in consultation with the Singapore Traditional Chinese Medicine Organisations Co-ordinating Committee (STCMOCC) was announced on 28 December 1999. Under these guidelines, some of the acupuncturists need to go for appraisal or take the Common Acupuncture Qualifying Examination (CAQE) before registration (See Annex).
The Ministry of Health is now releasing a booklet on " Examination Syllabi for CAQE and Information for Candidates". The booklet is available for sale to the public at $2 per copy. It can be purchased at the following places:

This booklet is released early in order to help candidates prepare for the CAQE.
The first Appraisal is tentatively scheduled for January 2001 and the second for June 2001. An Appraisal Examination Committee, to be headed by MOH, will be set up. The Committee will comprise representatives from MOH and STCMOCC. Consultants from China will be invited to advise the Committee.
The first CAQE is tentatively scheduled for June 2001. A CAQE Examination Committee, to be headed by MOH and with representatives from both MOH and STCMOCC, will be set up. The second CAQE is tentatively scheduled for September 2001 and the last CAQE in December 2001.
To help candidates required to upgrade their training and to prepare them for the CAQE, the Singapore Chinese Physicians' Association (SCPA) and the Association for Promoting Chinese Medicines (APCM) will be conducting classes on Acupuncture Upgrading Training Course (AUTC). Classes on AUTC are planned for the period September/October 2000 to May/June 2001. Those who complete the AUTC may take the CAQE in June 2001. More details on AUTC will be announced separately.
