To ask the Minister for Health (a) whether the Ministry tracks the prevalence of perinatal depression in Singapore; and (b) if so, whether the Ministry can provide the statistics on the prevalence of perinatal depression among Singapore residents in the past five years.
Answer
1 The prevalence of perinatal depression in Singapore, which comprises antenatal and postnatal depression, is estimated based on local research studies. The local prevalence of antenatal depression is about 7% to 9%, while that of postnatal depression ranges from 6.8% to 10.4% .
