The President of the Republic of Singapore will inaugurate and present the President's Award for Nurses on Nurses' Day, 1 August 2000.
The President's Award for Nurses recognises exemplary nurses who show outstanding professional competence, resourcefulness, and innovation in their work. They are role models with the ability to motivate and inspire younger nurses, and are active in community outreach and voluntary work.
The Ministry of Health received a total of 358 nominations from patients and their relatives, doctors, fellow nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
7 nurses have been short-listed for interview by the Selection Panel. They are:

Three Awards will be presented by the President at the Istana Garden Reception on 1 August 2000. Each recipient of the Award will receive $6,000 for professional and personal enrichment by attending an International conference, a trophy, and a certificate.
