To ask the Minister for Health with regard to the pay rise in starting salaries for junior doctors in the public healthcare system (a) what is the percentage increase in take home pay applied to house officers, medical officers and junior residents respectively; and (b) what are the reasons for the different increments for different levels of junior doctor.
  
Answer

Following the recent salary revision for junior doctors in the public healthcare sector, House Officers and first year Medical Officers (MOs) can expect a 7% and 13% increase in their starting salaries from 1 January 2023 respectively. Eligible in-service MOs or Residents up to post-graduate year (PGY) 6, and Dental Officers up to PGY 4 can expect a salary adjustment based on their years in service and bond period.

The amount of adjustment made depends on the market movement of salaries across different levels of seniority. The Ministry of Health will continue to review the salaries of doctors in the public healthcare system so that they remain competitive.
