JOINT MOH-MOE PRESS RELEASE
The NurtureSG Taskforce, co-chaired by Minister of State for Health Dr Lam Pin Min and Minister of State for Education Dr Janil Puthucheary, will launch a series of engagement sessions starting from 24 April 2016 to seek the public’s views on the health concerns of our children and youth.
2 The 8-week long public consultation will garner views and suggestions on how we can build a strong foundation for better health among our children and youth, to prepare them to lead healthier, longer lives and enable them to be better learners.
3 Lifestyle habits are often formed when young and carried into adulthood. It is therefore important to ensure that our children develop healthy behaviours early. Parents, caregivers, educators and the community play an important role in fostering healthy behaviours in our young, by equipping them with skills and creating a conducive environment for them to embrace healthy living. The Ministry of Health (MOH) and Ministry of Education (MOE) want to incorporate the views and suggestions of these important stakeholders as well as those of our students in developing NurtureSG.
4 The consultation will seek the public’s views on how our children and youth can have better health, as well as key areas of interest to the committee including physical activity, nutrition, mental wellbeing, myopia and oral health. Feedback will also be sought on possible ideas and initiatives to strengthen our efforts in these areas, and any other areas of concern.
5 The public consultation will start from 24 April and continue till 19 June 2016. We will be seeking views from parents, caregivers and members of the public during the consultation process. There will be sessions in English and other official languages. Please refer to Annex A for the list of engagement sessions currently open for registration. Views from teachers and students will be sought separately.
