MOH is working with URA to develop a new general hospital to serve Singaporeans living in the Western region (see Annex A for site boundary). The site is located in Jurong East, within walking distance from Jurong East MRT Interchange and Jurong East Bus Interchange. It is also accessible by road from Pan Island Expressway (PIE) and Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE).
The proposed Jurong General Hospital (working name), with a capacity of 550 beds, will provide acute inpatient and outpatient care. The site will make provision for an adjacent community hospital (200 beds). The co-location of both hospitals will facilitate sharing of common resources and expertise. It will also facilitate patient transfers. This is a tested model that has worked well for Changi General Hospital and St. Andrew’s Community Hospital in the eastern region.
A Hospital Planning Committee led by Dr Lim Suet Wun, National Healthcare Group CEO, is leading the detailed planning of the hospital. The hospital will open by 2015.
The development will form part of the larger Jurong Lake District Plan to transform the Jurong East area into a mini-city with commercial, leisure and other complementary amenities, benefiting the residents in the Western region. More details of the Jurong Lake District plan are available at http://www.ura.gov.sg/MP2008/Jurong/
