On 1st January 2011, Mr Ang Hak Seng will take over the reins from Mr Lam Pin Woon as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Health Promotion Board (HPB).
Mr Ang Hak Seng, who is currently the Senior Director of the International Cooperation Department at the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and concurrently the Senior Director of Capability Development and International Partnership at the Ministry of Home Affairs, has more than 24 years experience spanning the policy, operations and international domains. Notably, he played an instrumental role in the successful campaign to secure the bid to host the INTERPOL Global Complex in Singapore. Mr Ang’s extensive experience in driving SPF’s external engagements with its professional counterparts to enhance and exchange cooperation will help HPB garner the support of both local and international partners in many of its community health programmes.
Mr Ang was also instrumental in helping SPF as the first agency in the public sector, to achieve the Singapore Quality Award with Special Commendation. With his multifaceted contributions and strong people skills, Mr Ang will provide strong leadership in charting out HPB’s corporate strategies, directions and policies to meet new challenges and in forming strategic alliances.
Mr Lam Pin Woon, Chief Executive Officer, Health Promotion Board, will be stepping down after five years at the helm to pursue new endeavours in the private sector.
Under his capable leadership, Mr Lam rolled out several key initiatives to promote healthy living. He spearheaded the implementation of active ageing policies and programmes such as the Integrated Screening Programme and Chronic Disease Management Programme. Other major initiatives included the Obesity Prevention and Management Programme; the Lose To Win Programme; and the Dietary Guidelines for Children.
On the global stage, Mr Lam led Singapore’s bid to host the 15th World Conference on Tobacco or Health, an important forum for international collaboration on tobacco control, for the first time in 2012.
Mr Lam also played a pivotal role in introducing several innovative projects. Notably, initiatives like Health Promoting Mall and Healthier Food Choices Commitment have successfully positioned shopping centres as conducive venues for health-promotion activities and also made healthier food alternatives more readily available to the public.
Mr Lucas Chow, Chairman of HPB, said, “Pin Woon has done a tremendous job in spearheading health promotion and disease prevention programmes, and in motivating HPB staff to always give of their best. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”
The Ministry of Health and the Health Promotion Board wish to express its deep appreciation to Mr Lam Pin Woon for his sterling contributions and at the same time extend a warm welcome to Mr Ang Hak Seng as the new Chief of HPB.
