Mr Lam Pin Woon will succeed Dr Lam Sian Lian as Chief Executive Officer with effect from 3 September 2005, upon Dr Lam's retirement.
Mr Lam Pin Woon has had more than 20 years of experience in regional marketing, sales, operations and business management. After graduating from the National University of Singapore with a B Sc (Pharmacy) (Hons) and Georgia State University with an MBA, he worked in F&N Coca-Cola Pte Ltd, in Allswell Trading Pte Ltd, and in Quaker Oats Asia Inc where he was Managing Director.
Prior to his appointment at HPB, Mr Lam Pin Woon was the Chief Executive Officer (Group Health Supplements Division) of Cerebos Pacific Ltd. He brings to HPB valuable experience and a proven track record in the development of corporate strategies, directions and policies.
Dr Lam Sian Lian is retiring after 5 years at the helm of HPB, a statutory board set up in 2001 to promote good health in all Singaporeans. Some of the key initiatives rolled out under her capable leadership include the Check Your Health Community Health Screening Programme, BreastScreen Singapore; CervicalScreen Singapore; National Myopia Prevention Programme; Mind Your Mind Mental Health Education Programme; Osteoporosis Prevention Programme; and Childhood Injury Prevention Programme. She strengthened the Nutrition Programme and the National Smoking Control Programme. The improvement of the health of Singaporeans, as shown by the findings from the National Health Survey 2004, reflects the positive impact of these programmes.
Dr Lam Sian Lian held several senior appointments with the Ministry of Health, prior to her appointment as CEO of HPB. As a public health specialist, she was deeply involved for many years with the development of public healthcare services, such as the polyclinics, school health and dental health services as well as national health education and health promotion. Dr Lam also introduced key health promotion programmes such as the National Healthy Lifestyle Programme and the Great Singapore Workout in the 1990s, which are still actively supported by many Singaporeans till this day.
The Ministry of Health recognises the instrumental role played by Dr Lam in spearheading various national health promotion and disease prevention programmes. MOH is deeply appreciative of her service and achievements in HPB's efforts to build a nation of healthy and fit Singaporeans, and wishes her a happy retirement.

She led in the development of appropriate health promotion strategies and motivated HPB staff to give their best in their public service role to help Singaporeans to attain healthier lifestyles. We wish Dr Lam Sian Lian all the best on her retirement."
