Question No. 5235
To ask the Minister for Health (a) what is the national prevalence rate for chronic kidney disease in the last three years; (b) what proportion of patients have been compliant with their follow-up treatment; and (c) how does the Ministry plan to reduce this disease burden on our population.
Answer
1 Based on the National Population Health Survey, the estimated age-standardised prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) among Singapore residents, was 7.3% in 2019-2020 and 11.4% in 2021-2022.
2 We can reduce the incidence of CKD by tackling the risk factors, namely, diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and obesity. These risk factors are strongly influenced by our lifestyles, which is why the Health Promotion Board has been implementing programmes that encourage physical activities and reduce sugar consumption.
3 Healthier SG will further strengthen existing preventive care efforts to promote healthier lifestyles, screening participation and management of chronic conditions, including CKD.
