The Ministry of Health will be conducting an island-wide National Health Survey from March to June 2010 to measure the health status of Singaporeans in relation to major health problems in Singapore e.g. diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, and the associated risk factors such as smoking and obesity. The Survey will also include a nutrition study, the National Nutrition Survey, to determine the dietary practices and nutrient intake of Singaporeans. The results of the Survey will be used to track the nation’s progress towards national health targets and for planning and evaluation of health policies and programmes.
2 Between November and December 2009, the Ministry of Health will be conducting a household enumeration exercise to select participants for the survey. Interviewers from the research company engaged by the Ministry will be visiting 17,000 randomly selected households to collect basic information on household members. All selected households will receive a letter from the Ministry prior to the enumeration exercise. Based on the information collected, a household member may be selected from each household to participate in the survey which will be conducted from March to June 2010.
3 All interviewers from the research company will be wearing an identification tag bearing their name, photograph and the Ministry’s official stamp. They will also carry a letter of authorization from the Ministry. Members of the public may contact the Ministry at 63259497 or 63259085 to verify the identity of the interviewer or clarify any matter.
4 The public is assured of strict confidentiality of all information obtained during the enumeration exercise. The Ministry of Health hopes that all selected households will give their full support and cooperation for the Survey.
