The Ministry of Health in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO) will be conducting a national survey to collect information on the general health and lifestyle practices of Singaporeans. The key objective of the NHSS Survey is to allow the Ministry to monitor the health status of Singaporeans and to track our progress in achieving national health targets. The results of this survey will be used by WHO to compare the health of Singaporeans with that of the 191 WHO member countries. An independent research company, The Research Pacific Group Pte Ltd, has been commissioned to carry out the survey.
A total of 10,000 randomly selected households will participate in this survey. An interviewer from The Research Pacific Group will visit the selected households during June to December 2001 to list all members of the household and randomly select one member for a face-to-face interview. Each interview will last about 30 minutes. It will include questions on the respondent's personal particulars, general health conditions, health behaviours, opinions on selected health conditions, and some simple tests on vision, memory and mobility.
The Ministry would like to encourage all Singaporeans who have been selected for the survey to give their full support and cooperation. We would also like to reassure all respondents that the information collected will be kept confidential.
