Minister of Health to Attend the 69th World Health Assembly

Minister for Health Mr Gan Kim Yong will attend the 69th World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, Switzerland from 23 to 28 May 2016.
2. Minister Gan will be delivering a plenary statement on the WHA theme, “Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” on 23 May 2016. He will outline the importance of moving towards a sustainable heath system and underscore Singapore’s commitment to ensuring a quality health system that can support our pressing needs in his speech. Minister Gan will also be meeting the World Health Organisation (WHO) Director-General Dr Margaret Chan and his health counterparts on the side-lines of the WHA.
3. The WHA is the decision-making body of the WHO and is attended by Health Ministers and delegations from the 194 WHO Member States. The delegates will be discussing key public health issues such as the global strategy and action plan towards healthy ageing, pandemic influenza preparedness and emerging infectious diseases, the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases and health-security related issues. Other important areas of interest to Singapore include the progress of the WHO administrative reforms and its future priorities.
4. Minister Gan will be accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Health.
