Minister for Health to Attend the Inaugural G20 Health Ministers’ Meeting and 70th World Health Assembly

1 Minister for Health Mr Gan Kim Yong will attend the inaugural G20 Health Ministers’ Meeting (G20 HMM) in Berlin, Germany from 19 to 20 May 2017. He will also attend the 70th World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, Switzerland from 22 to 24 May 2017.
2 Singapore will attend the G20 HMM as a guest country at the invitation of Germany, the current G20 Presidency. The two main priorities for the inaugural G20 HMM are Antimicrobial Resistance and Preparedness against Health Threats.
3 The WHA is the decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO) where Health Ministers and delegations from 194 WHO Member States gather to discuss global health issues. This year, we will also elect the next WHO Director-General for the term from 2017 to 2022.
4 Mr Gan will deliver a statement at a plenary session on the WHA theme, “Advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: Building Better Systems for Health”. He will also meet with his international counterparts and other key personalities at the sidelines of both meetings. Mr Gan will be accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Health.
