Singapore and Brunei signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote closer cooperation in healthcare on 9 February 2007.
The MOU provides a comprehensive framework for greater collaboration between healthcare establishments in Singapore and Brunei. It enables both parties to:
Share each other's experience in healthcare activities;
Promote training exchanges between both countries;
Promote business opportunities in the healthcare sector.
The MOU is an expansion of a MOU signed in 2004 which focused on strengthening postgraduate medical training and research in both countries. This reflects the stronger ties between Singapore and Brunei, and underscores the strategic relations between both countries.
The MOU was signed by the Minister for Health, Mr Khaw Boon Wan, and his counterpart, the Brunei Minister of Health, Pehin Orang Kaya Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Suyoi bin Haji Osman.
The Bruneian Minister of Health is here in Singapore with four officials on a two-day visit, which includes visits to Singapore's major healthcare institutions.
