The Joint UK-Singapore Conference on Independence and Care for Older Persons is organised jointly by the British High Commission, the UK Department of Health, Trade Partners UK, Ministry of Health and the Singapore British Business Council. The Conference will be held on 19 and 20 October 2001 at the Ministry of Health.
Ten experts from Britain and two from Singapore will be speaking on eldercare issues. The Conference is divided into two parts, the main Conference which is a 1-day event and an accompanying day seminar for the general practitioners on the Saturday afternoon of 20 October 2001.
Minister for Health, Mr Lim Hng Kiang, will be giving the opening address at the Conference on 19 October 2001. Lord Filkin, the UK Government Spokesman on Health, House of Lords will deliver the keynote address.
Lord Filkin will be accompanied by ten UK speakers representing public, private and voluntary sectors. They include academics, medical practitioners and administrators. Lord Filkin will visit some eldercare facilities in Singapore, such as Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Ang Mo Kio Community Hospital, Lions Nursing Home and Alexandra Hospital. He will also call on Mount Alvernia Hospital and the Housing Development Board.
Lord Filkin will depart Singapore on 19 October 2001.
