1 Minister for Health Mr Gan Kim Yong will attend the 66th World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, Switzerland from 19-23 May 2013. This will be Minister Gan’s second visit to the WHA. He will be accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Health.
2 The WHA is the decision-making body of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and is attended by Health Ministers and delegations from 194 WHO Member States. The 66th WHA will discuss important public health issues such as pandemic influenza preparedness and emerging infectious diseases like H7N9 and the novel coronavirus, the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, universal health coverage and health-security related issues such as the implementation of the International Health Regulations (2005).
3 Minister Gan will host a health event entitled “Emergency Risk Management for Public Health” on the sidelines of the 66th WHA, which is open to all WHA delegations. At this event, Singapore will share our whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach in handling public health threats. Ministers and officials from the United Nations, WHO, and selected countries will also share their pandemic preparedness and multi-sectoral responses to health emergencies.
