Health Minister to attend 11th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting, 5-6 July 2012

Minister for Health Mr Gan Kim Yong will be attending the 11th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting (AHMM) and related meetings from 5-6 July in Phuket. This will be Minister Gan’s first visit to the AHMM. He will be accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Health.
Held biennially, the AHMM is attended by Health Ministers from the ASEAN countries, the People’s Republic of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea. It is a high-level platform for regional healthcare leaders to discuss strategic healthcare issues and identify areas of cooperation.
Themed “ASEAN Community 2015: Opportunities and Challenges to Health”, the 11th AHMM will discuss public health issues such as the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases. In addition, Minister Gan will be attending an ASEAN Health Ministers Retreat to discuss the future direction of regional health cooperation, and participate in roundtable discussions on “Universal Health Coverage” and “Tobacco Control”.
In Phuket, Minister Gan will also meet with his counterparts from ASEAN and the region to renew ties and explore potential collaborations in healthcare. An ASEAN-China Memorandum of Understanding in Health Cooperation will be signed at the 5th ASEAN-China HMM on 6 July.
