From 15 April 2016, the Allied Health Professions Council will commence registration for radiographers and radiation therapists. The registration recognises appropriately trained and qualified professionals for practice in Singapore. This will ensure higher professional standards and better care for the public. Besides radiographers and radiation therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech language therapists have been regulated by the AHPC since April 2013.
Under the Allied Health Professionals (AHP) Act, radiographers and radiation therapists will be granted full, restricted, conditional or temporary registration. The AHPC will determine the registration status of each applicant based on his/her training and qualifications, practice experience, and other relevant credentials.
There will be a one-year grace period up to 14 April 2017 for radiographers and radiation therapists currently practising in Singapore to get registered with the AHPC in order to continue their practice here. While their registration applications are being processed, they may continue to practise in their current jobs.
Radiographers and radiation therapists and new entrants into these professions who are not currently practising in Singapore on this commencement date of 15 April 2016 must be registered with the Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC) before they can practise in their profession.
Radiographers and radiation therapists who are currently practising in Singapore are encouraged to apply for registration early. They may visit the AHPC website at www.ahpc.gov.sg for more information. Further information on the Allied Health Professions Council is also available at the AHPC website.
