A boost from Khoo Teck Puat Foundation for Indonesian quake victims

The Khoo Teck Puat Foundation has pledged a sum of S$100,000 worth of medical supplies to help earthquake victims in Sumatra, Indonesia. The donation, made through the Ministry of Health (Singapore), will be used to procure medical supplies such as syringes, thermometers, surgical masks and others for the Pariaman Public Hospital.
The aid will be handed over by Dr Chiu Ming Terk, Senior Consultant, Tan Tock Tock Seng Hospital to Dr Asmaliza, Director, Pariaman Public Hospital on Tuesday (13 October). Dr Chiu is in Pariaman with 6 other medical staff from Tan Tock Seng Hospital as part of the Singapore medical team which has been providing medical aid to the earthquake victims since 3 October 09.
Meanwhile, the Singapore’s medical mission has been busy treating victims, mainly for fractures and infected wounds, as well as performing surgeries. So far, the team has carried out 83 surgeries and gone through an A&E patient load of 340.
In addition, our hospitals stand ready to deploy additional medical teams to help in the relief effort if more help is required.
