31 More Cases Discharged, 728 New Cases of COVID-19 Infection Confirmed

          As of 16 April 2020, 12pm, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed and verified an additional 728 cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore. The breakdown is as follows:

a)         Imported cases: 0

We have not had any new imported cases since 9 April. 

b)         Cases in the community: 48

The number of new cases in the community has decreased slightly, from an average of 38 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 37 per day in the past week. 

c)          Work Permit holders (residing outside dormitories): 26

The number of new cases amongst Work Permit holders residing outside dormitories has increased, from an average of 9 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 15 per day in the past week. 

d)         Work Permit holders (residing in dormitories): 654

The number of new cases amongst Work Permit holders residing in dormitories has increased significantly, in line with our continued efforts to actively test and isolate the infected workers.

2.          Details of these trends can be found in MOH’s daily situation Report (www.moh.gov.sg/covid-19/situation-report).

3.          Of the new cases, 81% are linked to known clusters, while the rest are pending contact tracing.

4.          MOH has been monitoring existing clusters for any further transmission. As there have been no more cases linked to Masjid Al-Muttaqin and Church of Singapore (Bukit Timah) for the past two incubation periods (i.e. 28 days), the clusters have now been closed.


 Links between previous cases found

5.          In the past week (9 April to 15 April), MOH has uncovered links for 415 previously unlinked cases (see Annex A).

6.          Further epidemiological investigations and contact tracing have uncovered links between previously announced and new cases. A summary of the confirmed cases are in Annex B.

Cases from public healthcare sector

Case 3431 (Announced on 15 April)

8.          Case 3431 is a 41 year-old female Singapore Citizen who has no recent travel history to affected countries or regions. She reported onset of symptoms on 10 April, and subsequent test results confirmed COVID-19 infection on 14 April. She is currently warded at Sengkang General Hospital.

9.          She is employed as an administrative staff at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital but had not gone to work since onset of symptoms.


Update on condition of confirmed cases

10.        31 more cases[1] of COVID-19 infection have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities. In all, 680 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities.

11.        Of the 1,886 confirmed cases who are still in hospital, most are stable or improving. 23 are in critical condition in the intensive care unit. 1,848 cases who are clinically well but still test positive for COVID-19 are isolated and cared for at community facilities. 10 have passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection.
