Question No. 4563
To ask the Minister for Health (a) what is the total amount of donations raised by the Rare Disease Fund (RDF) in 2022; (b) what is the respective breakdown of this donation by donor type, namely philanthropic foundations, companies, Government, NGOs, individuals and others; and (c) whether the Government will consider rolling out a strategy to obtain RDF donations from individuals through public communications, to complement the current approaches to raising donations.
Written Answer
The Rare Disease Fund (RDF) raised $4.9m in public donations in the calendar year of 2022. $2.3m was contributed by foundations, $1.3m was from companies, and the remaining from individuals and others. Together with the Government’s $3 to $1 matching grant, this brings the total funds raised by RDF in 2022 to $19.2m.
The RDF Committee has been actively outreaching to potential donors, and conducting publicity efforts to raise awareness of the Fund. It will consider stepping up efforts in this area.
