MediFund
MediFund is a safety net for Singaporeans who face financial difficulties with their remaining bills after Government subsidies, insurance and MediSave.
What is MediFund?
MediFund is a safety net for Singaporeans who face financial difficulties with their remaining bills after Government subsidies, insurance and MediSave.
As a Government endowment fund, interest income generated from the capital sum will be allocated to the MediFund Committees, who will tap on this to assist needy patients with their healthcare bills at the public healthcare institutions, community hospitals and approved long-term care facilities.
MediFund Silver and MediFund Junior are carved out from MediFund to provide more targeted assistance for needy seniors and children respectively.
What are the benefits?
Every MediFund-approved institution has an independent MediFund Committee to consider and approve applications, and to decide on the appropriate quantum of assistance to provide. The actual amount of assistance you receive depends on you and your family members' financial, health and social circumstances, as well as the size of the medical bill incurred.
Who is eligible?
To apply for MediFund assistance, you must:
be a Singapore citizen;
be a subsidised patient;
have received or require treatment from a MediFund-approved institution; and
be having difficulties paying for your healthcare bills after Government subsidies, insurance and MediSave.
Your application will be assessed holistically, taking into consideration you and your family’s financial, health and social circumstances.
How do I apply?
You or your family can approach the Medical Social Workers at relevant MediFund-approved institutions where treatment or care was received. In addition to MediFund, they will also explore other possible financing options with you should you face difficulty affording your healthcare bills.
